British Passport fees

Post by imranb » Mon May 13, 2013 2:37 pm

I am about to apply for the 1st British Passport for myself and my family (2 adults and 2 children). I intend not to use the Post Office’s Check & Send Service, but want to send it myself via Special Delivery, as I don’t see the value of the Check & Send service.

I am slightly confused about the payment method. There is a Payment Page on page 25 of the ‘Applying Passport Guide’ that I need to fill in. My queries are:

1) Should I fill just one payment form for the entire family or each form for each individual? If I only use one payment form, whose Barcode information do I put in? I know that they mention that if you are paying by cheque, all 4 barcodes should be mentioned on the back of the cheque. But no such instruction exists if we pay by Debit/Credit Card.

2) As per the fee structure, total fee for a family of 2 adults & 2 children should be £237.00 (72.5+72.5+46+46). But as I want my supporting documents to be returned through Secure Delivery, I have ticked that option on all the 4 forms. The confusion is what will be the total amount I pay?
a. Is it £237 (for passports) +£3 (for secure delivery) = £240.00
OR is it
b. £237(for passports) + £12 (£3 x 4 for secure delivery of documents of 4 applicants) = £249.00 ?

Sorry if my questions appear naive and slightly picky, but I do not want to take any chances on this last threshold of a long immigration journey.

Thanks for reading and appreciate any responses.

Why not call IPS adviceline on 0300 222 0000 and ask? Their customer service is excellent (nothing to compare with UKBA).

1. barcode of one of the applicant's will do - perhaps the application barcode of the credit card owner.

2. £3 per application as each set of documents will be returned separately.
