HI all,

Does the 6 month starts from the date the HO received the application or the date on the letter from HO confirming that they have received the application. I applied on the 17th of August 2017 and received a letter dated 24/08/17. I am an EU national, PR + 5 years

As I am approaching the 6 month mark, I am getting nervous. I sent the residency card I received when I applied for PR as proof of PR. However, I read somewhere that there seems to be 2 type of cards and that sending the wrong one would mean that the application will fail. Can anyone shed some light please?

Thank you. You need to wait 12 month after have PR and you need to send cover last 6 year resident like p60 or leter student cover 6 years

Could I ask what is your particular situation? Is yours a straightforward application?

I had 10 years legally stay in the UK plus my indefinite leave to remain. But when I had got my indefinite i did wait only for two months then I submitted my application. I have no idea whether that's made problem for me or not.

As far as I know, you have to wait for at least 1 year after being free from any stay restrictions, e.g. a year after obtaining an ILR/PR. So the 1 year has to be after being free of any stay restrictions, e.g. being on visa etc., so regardless of how long you've been legally staying, you have to have spent at least a year without any stay restriction. This is based on what I know. Others can correct me if I am wrong!

If you’re married to, or the civil partner of, a British citizen, you can apply for citizenship as soon as you recieve you ILR.I mean no need to wait 12 month after ILR If you are married to British citizen.That is how i apply after almost 2 months of my ILR.
CR001 is absolutely right. I really appreciate CR001 assistance.

Doesn't the 3 year rule still apply?

@ mrgs1 - not sure what you are questioning. If you are arried to a BC, then an application is a Section 6(2) base on 3 years residence. There is no requirement that you must have been married to a BC for 3 years to qualify as spouse of BC Section 6(2).

When my wife came in 2011 she had spouse visa for 2 years, at the end of the 2 year period she got ILR she had to be in UK for an extra year, 3 years total to then be apply for British Citizenship. That was the process, it's irrelevant now she's BC it was a general question.

Unless your spouse or civil partner works abroad either for the UK government or for an organisation closely linked to government, you must usually also have:

lived in the UK for at least the 3 years before your application is received

Hello there ,
I wonder if someone could help me please.
I am married to a brit obtained my ILR in 2003.
Looking to apply for Citizenship and BP
All my documentation from the HO is in my married name
The only ID I currently have are in my maiden name ( my Romania Passport expired at the end of Dec.)
I have my original birth certificate and my original marriage certificate to link the 2 names together
Do you think this is acceptable evidence to start my application?
And if no one can shed any light could you at least please advise where I could get a definite answer to this query? I have contacted my local NCS office and she admitted she didn't know much about it and I would be better contacting the HO for advice..... as much help as a chocolate fireguard she was

"If you are seeking progress of your application for naturalization and it has been with the Home Office for less than the published service standard of 6 months we will be unable to provide you with any further information. If we require further information from you the case-working team will contact you directly."

And

"Thank you for your e-mail. All applications are dealt with in application receipt date order. As you application was received on 07th November 17, It will take a while longer for your application to be considered. Once your application is decided, you will be contacted by your caseworker.

"If you are seeking progress of your application for naturalization and it has been with the Home Office for less than the published service standard of 6 months we will be unable to provide you with any further information. If we require further information from you the case-working team will contact you directly."

The reply is a generic one. They do not have to respond with specific queries about the status of applications which have been in consideration for less than 6 months. I applied about a week after you and still did not get my outcome. There are even people who applied in August, September and October who did not get their outcome yet. Some people have more straightforward applications than others and thus some people require more checks than others and hence the reason some people get their decisions quicker than others. Also, I think it depends on the caseworker as well...

All we can do is wait and keep fingers crossed!

Actually they do all September application been approved from January, I never received an approval letter I only get a letter about my name on the 30 jan And on the 9 received the documents back, I sent on the 30jan to clarify about my name but inside there were a letter just to explain about the documents,telling to wait for my citizen ceremony letter if I didn’t get in 3 weeks time let me contact them

Is anyone else finding it very difficult to get through to their council to book their ceremony? I have been trying for so many days and each time get through to an automated message telling callers to email and no option to leave an email. Have emailed but no reply! I've read somewhere that the council will contact you instead once they have received your certificate - does anyone know if this is the case? My council doesn't have the option of booking the ceremony online

Hello guys again , just wanted to share my story briefly I applied for citizenship based on 7 years family member route of Eu I applied 30th of october 2017 nothing yet from home office so now since it passed more than 3 months and no outcome so I am assuming my case isn't a straightforward anyway I had a gap between September 2010 and August 2011 when I got my 5 years resident card before that I had student visa before expiring in September 2010 I applied for marriage permission and temporary extension which I got straightaway from the home office 20 days after my student visa expired so as most of councils are usually useless I didn't submit that letter from the home office to cover this gap because at the time the council believed it's uncessery to send but now i feel it would help the caseworker how this gap happened basically all my documents were with the home office during this gap my question is will they consider me overstayer somehow.? 2nd question there is any possibility to get approval based on my situation? I never worked at all during this gap because all my documents were with home office beside i couldn't work with out permission so my wife was working and taking care of me in this gap once i got my 5 years resident card i started working straightaway until now so any suggestions.?

Well, 30 of October is still not a too long wait. Some people who applied in September/Early October are still waiting and I think someone who applied on the 7th of October said they received their approval this week so no one knows. I myself applied a couple of weeks after you and I am still waiting for the decision. From the timelines, it is my impression (maybe I am wrong!) that people who applied by post usually get a faster response... I am myself started to feel anxious and keeping my fingers crossed ...

How some people got their approval earlier than other is just matter of luck to me.It doesn’t depend on when you have applied.I applied 13/12/17 (waiting)and have seen so many members from December timeline got approval.i have no gap in my stay and no criminal record best thing is to keep you fingers cross and wait.
