I booked the appointment at Birmingham consulate office.

https://www.vfsvisaservice.com/IHC-UK-A ... eUVLcp3A4=

- Select ' Birmingham' for 'Select VAC:'
- select ' Consular Service' for 'Services:'

I got the Birth certificate within a week. Now, I have applied for passport, waiting for it.

Well, I have to say service is not that great. Typical 'Govt office' - No queue , no management.
Feel free to message me to if u have any question.

Hi All,

I recently submitted application for my Daughter's passport born in the UK in London VFS

Sharing the process.

Fill the birth registration form online on HCIlondon website and then take an appointment. finding where the "appointments" link is tricky and not easily available and fortunately I stumbled upon it after searching for almost 2 weeks. On the home page of HCIlondon scroll down and on the left there is a small square "book appointment".

once you get appointment, be ready to wait for almost an hour if you reach exactly at the time of appointment, My appointment was at 10 AM and I reached there at 945. it is first come first serve basis for that time slot I guess, so if you go early at around 9 AM then you might be seen at 10 AM.

Documents required.
Application Form
Original and Copy Birth Certificate
Original and copy of marriage certificate
Passport photo copy of both parents
visa/BRP of both parents
Address Proof in the UK
1 Photograph - I submitted 51CMx51CM but there is no specific guideline for this.

Originals are returned and only photo copies are kept.
Fees: 19 Pounds.

You will be asked to come after 10 days after 430 PM for collection.

Now for Passport - this is via VFS
Take appointment, this is very striaght forward on VFS site or call them they
Application form
4 photographs as per specification
Original Marraige certificate and copy
Original Birth certificate and copy
Original Birth registration certificate and copy
Original Passport and copy of both parents
Original BRP/Visa and copy of both parents
Few annexures that are present on VFS site
both parents are required if one is unable to attend get a declaration from that parent.
Fees after service charge is 47.88

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

Thanks. That's really useful.

I've initially booked appointment with VFS but found out that they can only process passports and not birth registrations (really absurd that I have to travel to London just to register birth).

Anyways, got appointment now with HCI London.
My advice is based on personal research/experience, so pls check relevant UKVI sources.

Hi,

Could someone tell me the time frames for getting UK birth certificate,Indian birth certificate,Indian citizenship,Indian passport and visa for baby born in UK.
My baby is due in May and I'm doubting if I can travel to India within 3 months after the long processes mentioned here.

Thanks,
Dewdrops

Hi,

For UK Birth Certificate -It's always with your council and usually it takes a week or two to get an appointment and it depends on council to council to receive your baby's UK birth certificate.

My daughter was born on 25th Feb in London and i booked an appointment on 27th February (once after receiving the discharge summary which is must for Birth registration in UK) the earliest appointment date i received was 7th March. So booked it and went for the appointment.

Good thing was that, my council gave the birth certificate on the appointment day & time itself. It was really quick and easy. It took maximum of 10-15 minutes to provide the UK birth certificate.

For other questions, will give you an update once after the process completes.

The birth registration with embassy is on 5th April. You may expect a reply soon for this process.

P.S: Birth Registered at Newham Council, London.

UK birth certificate - got it on the same day I booked the appointment. They print it then and there.

Indian birth certificate: Was a nightmare. I submitted it on 22nd January and got it on 23rd March, that too after many calls and emails.

Not sure what you mean by Indian citizenship. Registering birth in HC/getting birth certificate is all you need.

Indian passport: due to Indian birth certificate delay I've now submitted for my child's passport via Tatkal. Hopefully it should come within a week. Will let you know when I get it.

UK visa: Normal application within 8 weeks is what they mentioned on their website, so planning to apply as soon as we get passport. Booked tickets to travel end of July, so normal application maybe sufficient in my case. Trying to avoid priority service and save some money 😭

My only advice- better not to book tickets until you get Indian birth certificate and then go for Tatkal passport n same day/priority service for visa.
My advice is based on personal research/experience, so pls check relevant UKVI sources.

So what should we do?

Yes, just give the details of yourself or the other parent.

Your details are just for info and not for processing your own application.

Quick Question in the Passport Application:

There're two addresses needs to be filled:

1. Address to be printed on the Passport
2. Other Address

What does 'Other Address' mean here? UK address/same India address?

Could you please help me here?

Regards,

1. Indian address - only this will be printed on passport (unless exceptional circumstances)
2. UK address or can be another Indian address. It doesn't matter as only main address matters.

For my wife I kept both Indian addresses (old property address, which was on her previous passport) and new address, which we wanted on the new passport (address change)

For my kid I kept Indian address and UK address.
Hope that helps.

Hello all,

I have just filled in the application for the birth registration of my son on the MHA website and have appointment at the HCI London on Friday. The pdf form that was generated after the submission, already has the photograph of my son - the one I uploaded and there is no other space for pasting another photo. So do I still need to get his photograph printed from a studio? Can I print the photo myself at home on a photographic paper?

The form has only my signatures on it. Will that be sufficient? and can I go alone for the appointment. I live in Oxford and with a 3 month old baby who has quite bad reflux, and wife still recovering from a complicated delivery, it will be quite difficult to go to London for this.

Thank you

So do I still need to get his photograph printed from a studio? Yes, they will need one more for another form.

Can I print the photo myself at home on a photographic paper? I guess so as long as it's decent enough. Having said that, you don't want to waste your time if they say it's not good enough. So better get a proper one (take more photos for Passport as well, which you would apply shortly I'd imagine)

The form has only my signatures on it. Will that be sufficient? Both parents have to sign. Check second page, which says "Signature of parents". Also, both parents need to sign on the "Declaration for Birth Registration of Child" form as well + stick a photo to this form.

can I go alone for the appointment. Yes, just make sure you have all the right documentation, i.e. marriage cert., copy of passport of both parents (self attested, so get your wife to sign on her passport copy), UK birth certificate of child, etc.

Thank you

Thank you, that makes sense.

One last bit, for Parents photograph on the "Declaration for Birth Registration of Child" form - does it have to be a photograph with both parents in it or two separate passport size photographs will do?

Best,

Hi all,

One question:

How did you take photograph of baby?
I'm planning to apply for baby's birth registration, passport, etc within 2 months of birth.

So should we take photo by ourselves when baby is awake and then give it to studio for printout.

Thanks and regards,
Dewdrops

You can take baby to Jessops or similar and generally they put them on the floor over a sheet and take photo. It will take a few attempts or sometimes they may ask you to come back if baby is crying a lot.

You're welcome.

Btw, keep a toy and a soother handy to keep the baby calm.

Remove the soother just before photographer is ready to click. 😉

Hi there,

We''ve received our daughter's Birth Registration Document from High Commission on 24th April 2018 and we're ready for her Passport appointment on 1st May 2018. Will share our experience once we're done with this passport submission.

Just a doubt, do we need to have any annexure to be taken along with other documents?

Here's what it says in VFS site, but i guess only Annexure D would be sufficient. Can someone guide us here?

Important Note: All Passport Applications for Minor Children - Renewal or Fresh Passport Applications.

Declaration for change of appearance
Consent of both parents is required in the form of Annexure – D. Please CLICK HERE to download the form.
In case of single parent’s, Annexure – C form will be applicable, as the case may in Lieu of Annexure - D
