Sharing my recent experience in getting Indian passport and brp card for my newborn daughter.
UK BIRTH REGISTRATION
My baby was born on 17 may and we took appointment for uk birth registration by telephone on 21 may.This information was found on red book as well as mentioned by midwife on her first home visit.On 22 May, my husband went to the office and got the birth certificate on the same day itself.They just asked him to write baby’s name in a piece of paper and parents’ names were taken from our passports.Nothing else was needed though we carried red book , hospital discharge summary ,marriage certificate,etc.
We paid £8 for 2 copies.
INDIAN BIRTH REGISTRATION

which gives all the details of the process.Lots of documents were mentioned on the site,but in reality only the below were asked for during the appointment.
Documents to be carried are as follows
1.Filled in application form with baby’s photo uploaded
2.Original and self attested copy of UK birth certificate
3.Original and self attested copy of parents marriage certificate
4.Original passport and brp card of both parents
Originals were verified and returned back.
They didn’t ask for baby’s photo though we took 2 photos with us.

We took appointment on 24th may( as there is waiting time of around 2 weeks to get an appointment,so sooner the better)for 5th June from

and checked the status of the application at

by giving the MHA file number (obtained after submitting the application form online
) and went on 20th June after 4:30 pm and received the birth certificate.
You have to wait and they will call out baby’s name.
They asked us to come after 3 weeks to collect but since we checked the status after 10 working days( precisely on the 11th day),we could go and receive it without wasting time.
While taking the appointment you need to select consular services and give UK birth certificate number in passport and OCI registration number columns.Also baby’s first and last name with date of birth need to be entered.
Appointment was at London high commission office and the waiting time was around 1 hour after taking the token,but document submission took less time.
There is only one counter and it took more time as many people who fail to bring the correct documents will submit the missing documents (mostly photocopies) between each appointment.

You need to fill in the application form online at
https://passport.gov.in/nri/index.jsp
and will get a unique number starting with GBR after submission .Thereafter,we took appointment for vfs global passport service on 28th May and got it on 22-June.This was under the impression that we will get Indian birth certificate before that.
Please give the GBR number as passport number and OCI registration number while taking the appointment.
Appointment was at VFS global office,Hounslow and the waiting time was less.
Documents submitted are as follows
1. Original and self attested copy of UK and Indian birth certificates.
2. Application form with baby’s passport size photo pasted(50*50 mm)
3. 3 passport size photographs of baby(50*50 mm)
4. Annexture D can be obtained from

5.Authorization letter of parent not appearing
6. Either you need to pay for courier service to get originals and passport or you can give Royal Mail self addressed envelope.
We gave envelope for passport and opted for courier service to get originals as we thought we will get back the originals on the appointment day itself.
Amount:£47.88 including courier service for getting back the originals.
We got originals back on 26th June and passport on 17th Jul(18th working day after submission)SMS was received on 16th July that passport got dispatched.
Now comes the main part Visa(BRP card)
We were confused on what to do as we didn’t have enough time to apply for visa through standard service after getting the passport as we have booked for 20th August flight tickets.
One option which many people had advised was to get visa from India but for that process we need to take baby for the appointment.It was practically not a good idea to make a 4 month old UK born baby travel for around 6 hours to another city from our home town to do biometric.
So we started searching for options to apply for visa parallely to save time and money.
From gov.uk site,we got following information and we then proceeded to fill in the online application.
Children born while you’re in the UK
If you have children while you’re in the UK, you can apply for permission for them to stay.
You must do this if you want to travel in and out of the UK with your child.
When you apply you must send a full UK birth certificate showing the names of both of your child’s parents.

You can select the option as having no passport and it will automatically be filled as person born in UK.
Once the application has been submitted,we just posted the mandatory documents as mentioned after submission.
1.Original UK birth certificate
2.Two UK passport photos(35*45mm)
Amount:Visa cost plus IHS
We posted the documents on 10th June and took biometric on 11th June.
Biometric appointment letter was obtained on the day of submission of the visa application itself.
You need to go to your nearest post office and just baby’s photo was taken and not any fingerprints.
We got the BRP card on 27thJuly and originals on 26th July.
