UK immigration law and Ireland

Post by Latintraveller » Fri Jun 14, 2013 10:11 am

It has been almost a year since the UK changed the immigration rules and finally the media have started to report on the impact that the change is having on individuals and their lives. This comes after a UK cross-party inquiry.

I am interested in the subject from an Irish perspective? Have the amount of UK nationals with non-EU spouses entering Ireland dramatically increased in the last year? How does the Irish Immigration service feel about this and how are they responding? Are many applicants being turned down and for what reasons? How well known is the EU directive that many of us on the forum are availing themselves of? Are there any plans afoot to close this loophole? What would occur if the UK left the EU?

Just would be interested in facts, figures and people's views on this.

This crops up from time to time. There is no point in speculating about what might happen.

Ireland always copies UK Government Laws. Very soon if not now this law will come into affect in Ireland which I find really appalling.

And this will lead to a strange situation with Irish people moving to the UK so that they can sponsor their spouse under EU Treaty Rights, and British people moving to Ireland so that they can do the same - instead of everyone staying at home.
