Can I work in the UK with a spouse visa?

Post by perico85 » Fri Jun 21, 2013 2:32 pm

Hi, I live in Mexico right now and my boyfriend got a job in the UK (he is a british citizen) that needs to start on September 2013. We intend to get married ASAP so I can apply for the partner visa and join him. I would also like to work upon my arrival and I wonder if this partner visa allows it?
Also, I have been informed of a "residence permit" that I need to request once I am in the UK?...How long does the partner visa allow me to remain in the country?

Many thanks for your help,

If you marry, you would then apply for a Spouse Visa in Mexico. Assuming you meet all the regulations and the visa is granted you would initially be issued with a 2.5 year visa and then a further 2.5 year visa if you continue to qualify. After this you could then apply for Indefinate Leave to Remain (ILR).
However, read through the guide notes for an application on form VAF4a.
When you apply, your husband will need to have completed a minimum of 6 months in his UK employment which equates to at least £18,600 salary per annum. Otherwise you'll need £62,000 in savings.
Once you enter the UK on your spouse visa you will be permitted to work legally.

Thank you for your reply Casa.
At the time I apply, my husband will not have completed a minimum of 6 months in his UK employment, however he is going to work at the same enterprise he has been working on for 6 years now in Mexico, just that now in the Cambridge office, is this enough to cover the 6-month requisite? I´ve been working also for 4 years in this enterprise and plan to be hired by them also in Cambridge. Do you think that attaching a letter from the employer confirming this is sufficient? Thanks.

Hello,
Can anyone please confirm me if the translated documents need to be translated by a special translator? (e.g. certified by the Bitish embassy?) Or can I use any translator? Thanks.

You can use any qualified or professional translator to translate your documents from the native language into English.

Hello. I am about to complete my application form to apply for a spouse visa, and in the Appendix 2 in Part 2 they ask where do I plan to live in the UK. However me and my husband plan to rent an apartment and this arrangement will not be completed by the time I submit my application. Which other options do I have to enter in this section? Thanks.
