Tier 2 workers cannot have a permanent job?

Post by JS28 » Thu Jun 27, 2013 1:27 pm

HI All,

I am on a tier 2 Visa until March 2016. My employer offered me a permanent contract and they told me in email and a letter.

I went to HR to ask for my permanent contract and I was told that it is illegal to offer someone a permanent employment unless they have indefinite leave to remain?

I understand having condition of renewing visa but to avoid giving a permenanent contract is shocking.

Is this true?

I feel like the HR is discrimiinating :(

There is no rule against hiring Tier 2 visa holders as permanent employees. My husband and I both are on Tier 2 visas, me being the dependent(valid until 2015) and we both hold permanent jobs with a multinational investment banks. In fact I got a new job permanent offer only last month with less than 2 years left on my current visa. We both have proper permanent contracts given to us.
