Looking for best visa option

Me and wife have ILR and qualify for BC in Nov13, and in full time employment.

My mother has US Residency - not citizenship. My father recently passed away. Mother is a Visa National wrt UK.

My mother has travelled to UK before on a 6 month visit visa while we were on WP.

She would be permanently based in USA eventually, but has about 3 years before she qualifies for US citizenship.

In the meantime, she would like to frequently visit us in UK on her way to/from USA, say about 4 times a year, with 2 weeks stay in UK each time.

What visa should she apply for? Currently I am preparing for a 6 month family visit visa application.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you considered the 1 and 2 year general visitor visa?
