Non EU Spouse with uk spouse visa to travel to spain

Post by butterfly4321 » Sun Jul 21, 2013 8:24 pm

Hello

My husband is Egyptian and has a spouse visa that expires next may 2014. We will then apply for ILR visa. He has been living with me in the UK since last February. I hold a UK passport and was born here. I would like for us to vist my mother in Spain. Do we need to apply for a Schengen visa through the Spanish Consulate in the UK or can we travel without one.

I have been reading on here about people being able to travel to a schengen country with thier spouse without a visa. Is this with the residence visa they get when they do the ILR? Not the one previous to that that is a visa in their passport

If we need to apply for a schengen visa how much money do I need to prove is in my savings account?

Please help i am very confused.

Thanks

He will need a visa.

The reports you read are from people holding a Residence Card under the EEA immigration route (family members of non-UK EU nationals). Your husband has a visa under the UK immigration route so he is not exempted. The Schengen visa is however free of chrage (because you are British = EU national) and there is no need for any proof of finance. Just a marriage certificate and your passports. He also doesn't need to answer the questions marked with * on the application form.
