British citizen left UK for 6 years, now going back to UK...

Post by Fil_UK » Fri Jul 26, 2013 10:47 pm

Hey guys,

I'm British (Asian) born and bred, I've spent the past 5-6 years in Asia and now I want to go back to the UK permanently. I am of dual-citizenship - British and my country of residence for the past 5-6 years. I have all the usual UK government issued ID's such as an N.I. card and a (Pink) UK Driving licence.

When I exited the UK back in 2008 I used my British passport, but I never told authorities that I was going to be away for a long time.

My main question is:
* Will there be any problems getting back into the country?

My sub-questions are:
* Bank accounts etc. will there be any problems opening a new one?
* Finding a job again - tips before heading back?

Thank you all in advanced

No issues coming back, I assume your British Passport is still in date? You should be able to open a basic bank account, for anything more, you'll need to get on the electoral roll and build up a credit profile. Regarding jobs, there are none! but you could try https://www.gov.uk/jobsearch

Hey! Yep passport still valid (just about). With regards to opening a basic bank account, some require a fixed address, now if I rent an apartment upon returning to the UK, could that be classed as a fixed address?

Also, got the old student loan which I haven't even begun to pay off yet  would that be automatically deducted from my salary when I get a job?

Also, I'm no longer single, how would I go about updating my records for tax purposed and declaring I have a wife and one child abroad?

Thanks

Also, I'm no longer single, how would I go about updating my records for tax purposed and declaring I have a wife and one child abroad? Contact HMRC and have your NI number handy.

Thanks
