***help needed with form QUESTION 2.1 seaport????

Post by lad2777 » Tue Aug 20, 2013 5:00 pm

I found it a bit confusing, so I am asking kindly.

I entered the UK for the first time on the BUS/COACH through Callais (in France) and then DOVER.

question is:

2.1 Date and place of first arrival in the United Kingdom (see page 7 of the Guide)

Guide says:

Enter the day you first arrived with a view to staying in the UK on a long-term basis, seaport through which you then entered.

so in this case which seaport I should write? Callais or Dover?

callais is a port in France, there my passport was scanned before I entered the UK, Dover was the first port I went through in the UK, however they dont check passports as They do in in Callais

so now Im confused, if I write callais, its french port, if I write dover its british port but they didnt check my passport there

thanks

Write Dover with the proper date

Many people coming in through even Heathrow dont have their passports stamped. That is a jobsworths government department as many others well known for their quixotic way of working.

Putting Calais

Post by VR » Wed Aug 21, 2013 6:49 am

My 2 cents! Dont volunteer too much info when dealing with public authorities.

Putting Calais may result in your application being delayed. When I land up in Heathrow, I need not mention Heathrow VIA Timbuktoo, Afghanistan, Iran etc which could make the dumb wits ponder and delay things further.

As VR suggested, don't over inform, just write Port of Dover, though they scan your passport in Calais, its just for their ease they do your immigration before you board, however your port of entry is Dover. Just like from going to US from Canada, they do the immigration before boarding the plane in Canada.
