naturalisation and passport

Post by ofke » Sat Aug 31, 2013 11:02 pm

hi, I applied for British naturalisation 2 weeks ago and assume the ceremony will take place in 3-4 months.

my counrty of origin is outside of the EU and in January I must leave the UK for few years for my dream job.

it means I might not have enough time to apply for a passport.

does it mean in the next years i will be a citizen without a passport?
will I be able to apply for Passport in 5-10 years?
what are my rights as a citizen without a Passport?
Will I be able to enter the UK with my foreign passport?

thanks in advance.

You'll have to be in the UK for your citizenship ceremony. If your future intention is to live in the UK then your travel should be ok for the purpose of your naturalisation application. You'll be a British citizen with or without a British Passport, if you don't want to get a British Passport get a certificate of entitlement to return to the UK, you can apply for this here or abroad.

thanks!

so it means that one day after the ceremony I can leave the UK and when my work abroad is finished (even if it takes years), I can apply from abroad for a certificate of entitlement to return to the UK?

when I have this certificate I will be able to return to the UK as a UK citizen and only then apply for passport?

will I be able to enter the UK with my foregin passport till then?

You can also apply for a British Passport from abroad at any point after your ceremony.
