choosing correct SOC (and salary level) for Tier 2 General

Post by talktonight » Mon Sep 16, 2013 2:50 pm

Hello everyone,

So it looks like the company who wants to employ me managed to get their Sponsorship License (they received an email with User 1 login details today) which is great news. I'm currently on Tier 4, having completed my course (NQF Level 7) in June 2013, therefore no labor market test is required.

Now I'm looking at choosing the right Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) code and appropriate salary and I have to say it's rather confusing.

My job title would be "Business Development Manager", so that's SOC 3545, and all job tasks described on UKBA's website seem to fit. However, I will have slightly wider job tasks range (there would be an additional 3-5 tasks), so shall they specify this to UKBA when assigning CoS?
Also, the salary level for SOC 3545 is stated as £21700 for inexperienced and £29500 for experienced employees, however we're looking at around £30000 PA in my case, so would this be a problem if company offers higher salary that UKBA requires, provided that the range of job tasks is also wider?

There are two pieces of information needed to access the SMS, one comes by email,. the other by post

You don't choose the SOC code, the company does, they are responsible for it to the HO.

If the tasks described under SOC 3545 fit your job there is no problem. In addition to quoting the SOC code the company will also describe the job in the CoS. The salaries in the code of practice are minimum values, there is no upper limit to how much you can be paid.

Thanks for your reply!

That's correct, they've received only password by email, "user ID will come by post shortly". I'm guessing that the fact of receiving this kind of an email guarantees that UKBA issued a license?

Understood about salary level, thank you.

you can check if they are listed: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... ofsponsors

Once you are assigned the CoS suggest you ask the sponsor for a printout and check that there are no mistakes in it.
