How Total Income affect the Housing Benefit

Post by coolguysl81 » Wed Oct 02, 2013 11:56 pm

Dear All,

Appreciate if anyone can help me in this issue.

1) For a couple and baby its stated that they are eligible for a 2 bedroom LHA. But if they live in 1 bedroom flat will they only receive housing benefit for a 1 Bed flat?

2) Income:- If the husband is only working and no savings available(both husband and wife) and his salary is approx £1050 after tax, will they receive few amount of money as the rent is £750(council tax - £80 per month) and the salary(£1050) can cover the Rent. If this is the case are they eligible for a sufficient amount of LHA(at least £600-£700)?

3) Can they apply for child tax or working tax credit? Do they need to apply separately? If at a later point of time they receive some credit, does that mean LHA amount will be reduced? Do they need to inform the Council about the new income or is it be automatically updated in the system?

4) If the wife is getting Maternity allowance is it counted as an Income. If so what happens when the allowance expired. Do we need to tell the date of expiry so the council can adjust the allowance?

5) Assuming that all the requested documents are handed over to the council how long will it take to process and receive the money?

Thank you in advance

See here for an estimate (click).

2) Income:- If the husband is only working and no savings available(both husband and wife) and his salary is approx £1050 after tax, will they receive few amount of money as the rent is £750(council tax - £80 per month) and the salary(£1050) can cover the Rent. See here for a calculation. Select that you're British.

3) Can they apply for child tax or working tax credit? Do they need to apply separately? If at a later point of time they receive some credit, does that mean LHA amount will be reduced? Do they need to inform the Council about the new income or is it be automatically updated in the system?

Joint claim for tax credits.

Yes and your required to inform of a change in circumstance, I.e. When the allowance stops.

5) Assuming that all the requested documents are handed over to the council how long will it take to process and receive the money?

Usually, 2-12 weeks.

Thank you in advance
