FLR(M)-when will my passport be back for wifes application

Hi
My wife has applied for FLR (M) today and i've had to submit my passport too.
Anyone know how long they will keep my passport, is it kept for the duration of the process/decision making or do they send it back quicker?

I will need it to travel for work.
Is it possible to request it back without affecting the application?
