Spouse English Language Requirement

Post by Ranjit Rastogi » Mon Oct 07, 2013 10:38 pm

Hi All,
I have a bit complicated case, We (Me, My wife and a thee year old daughter) came to UK in February 2008. After completing 5 years, I applied for ILR for myself and my daughter. Actually My wife was quite poor in English and wasn't able to clear Life in the UK even after 3 attempts and her visa expired, so I sent her back to India and me and my daughter got the ILR the meantime. Now, After some coaching, my wife gave IELTS in India just now and she has scored 4.0 in Listening, 4.0 Reading, 3.0 in Writing and 4.0 speaking and her overall band is 4.0. Now my concern is Can we apply for her spouse visa based on this results or she need to give the Test again and try to get more marks.

I gather her leave expired?

If the level meets the A1 requirement as per the approved list (click), the that will suffice. However, the issue with IELTS is the lowest grade is B1 so must meet the necessary, but higher, grading.

Yes her visa expired, thats why she went back.

I googled it and found that someone had exactly same problem. https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/ ... th_ielts_f
According to the reply, yes the spouse can, But I just wanted to be doubly sure.

In that approved list, with the IELTS Test, it is mentioned as Listening - 4.0, Speaking - 4.0, Reading - 4.0, Writing - 4.0. but no mentioned of overall band score that why I was a bit concerned, I don't want that I apply for her visa and after 3 months or so, It gets rejected.

Could anyone let me know will these scores suffice for spouse visa or should she give the test again,
