Travelling with unregisted Child born in the UK

Post by FrenchBoy25 » Sat Nov 02, 2013 1:50 pm

Hello All,

Please can anyone advice if it is OK to travel to France with my Son who was born in the UK, but is still unregistered; this is because I am hoping to appply for Naturalization with him later this year.

Both Myself and my wife have ILR, but we got it after his birth.

Thanks

It's okay. However, a non-British child requires leave to enter the UK.

"Unregistered" - assuming this means he has not been registered as a British citizen.
However, also assumes you have registered his birth and obtained a birth certificate? If not, that's a more significant problem.

As someone else says he can travel to France however he then needs:

- a foreign passport; and
- entry visa for France, if applicable; and
- an ILR stamp in his passport to allow re-admission to the United Kingdom (unless the "other" passport is EEA/Swiss).

I certainly hope you have registered his birth at the local Registrar office. The law requires this!

In any case, was your son born after you had ILR, or before? If after, he's automatically a citizen and requires no MN1 registration.
