UKM Documents Required-Registration

Post by Hopefull50 » Sun Nov 03, 2013 2:41 pm

Hello all, I live in Canada & have never visited the UK. My mother was British not by descent. Her parents were British and she was a war bride & came to live in Canada where I was born in 1959. I am making an application for registration through UKM-applicants born pre 1983 to British mothers. In the required documents requested from all applicants, there is a request for registration or naturalization certificate of my mother, or her expired passport. My problem is I am applying many years after her death, she never needed registration or naturalization, and I do not have an expired passport of hers after these many years. I am hopping that this section should have had the phrase " if required" attached to it to refer only to mothers who got their citizenship not by descent. Can anyone clarify if I need to include her expired passport or proof of her registration? I am including all other required documents, hers & my birth certificates, my passport. I previously applied for, and was granted, Right of Abode, so I consider this a good indicator for my application. If I need additional proof of her expired passport (god forbid) or registration for her, does anyone know where I would obtain that? Also, can anyone confirm that the current cost is £80 and that the application should be sent to New Hall Place in Liverpool? The fee schedule says £80, Ceremony only. Are there more fees? This is in the instructions guide form forms if am filling out, but I have looked at other comment boards & there are some that have sent their applications to Washington, D.C. Thanks again for any help or comments

Her birth certificate is good enough. No need for a passport or a certificate (which she never had).
£80 is the correct fee. In the past you could have applied via a British consulate but nowadays all applications need to be posted to the UK.

Thank you for you reply, I thought that was the case, but your confirmation was a great relief.
