Tricky Situation-First Adult British Passport

Post by samrat_g » Wed Nov 06, 2013 8:10 am

Hi All,

This post is regarding my wife's first British Passport Application.

Background:

In 2011, she misplaced her Indian Passport while we were on Holiday in India. The passport contained Tier-1 Dependant Visa Vignette. We reported lost passport and a new passport was issued. Later on she recovered her old passport. We had to report back to the Regional Passport Office, Kolkata, and the old passport was made cancelled. Her new passport contains a statement " Old Passport Reported Lost". I informed this incident to the British High Commission(India) by email, although we never received any reply.

She travelled back to the UK with her New Passport and Old Cancelled Passport with the Valid Visa Vigennette. Please note that the visa does not become invalid with the expiry or the cancelleation of the passport.

Eventually, she applied for Indefinite Leave to Remain(ILR) and now she only carries one passport(new one) which contains the ILR Vigennette.

Issue: The United Kingdom Passport Application Contains a Section which requires detail of Lost or Stolen Passport.

Section-'3B' says "You Must Send Us All Uncencelled Passports with the Application". It then says If the Passports are lost or Stolen, go to Section 3C.

I am not sure whether we should fill Section 3C.

Because her Uncancelled Passport(The New One) contains the statement "Old Passport Report Lost", I am inclined to fill the details of her "Old Passport", however, on the other side, Section 3C is more applicable if Uncancelled Passport could not be sent with the application because it is Lost or Stolen, which is not the case in our situation.

Please can you advise me in right direction.

Regards

Thanks once again for your quick reply. One concern is the New Passport contains a Statement, "Old Passport Report Lost". Do you not this is to be a problem if I leave Section 3C blank. On the contrary, The Lost Passport is Half True because we retrived it later on. I am a bit puzzled on this.

I look forward to your response.

You must only fill in part C if your or your child’s current passport has been lost or stolen.
I think this is quite clear. If you still wish to include your old/lost passport feel free to do so. It really doesn't matter. You are applying for a British passport as a British citizen. They don't care too much about your old passports.
