Regarding professional referee for MN1

Post by simplyleaf » Fri May 16, 2014 11:00 pm

Hi All,

My wife and my son with has gone to China visiting relatives in April 2013. My son was born in UK on August 2012,which before I and my wife got the ILR on Dec 2013. They're planning to comeback to UK, therefore, I'm collecting documents to register my son as a British Citizen using MN1 form under section 1(3).

We don't know any British or Commonwealth citizen in China. By reading the MN1 guide page 28 SECTION 5: REFEREES AND IDENTITY, it says "If the child is living abroad and does not know a British citizen who is qualified to act as a referee, a Commonwealth citizen or citizen of the country in which he or she is residing
may complete and sign the form“. It seems two Chinese referees (one is a health professional) to sign the form.

My GP refused to sign the form as she hasn't seen my son for some time. Alternatively, I could ask the director and HR manager in my company to sign the form but they're not doctor/health visitor and also they haven't seen my son since he's gone abroad . Do you think this would be accepted by the UKBA?

I have done some research in the forum and on internet but haven't seen anyone in the similar situation as my son has been abroad for around a year.

Your kind guidance is much appreciated.

Many thanks for your hep.
