What's after an EU resident card?

Hello. I am a non European. My husband is Irish and we have been living in the UK since January 2007. I have an eu residence card which will expire August 2014. What should I apply for next? I guess we both qualify to apply for British citizenship now but I left too late and we really want to go on holiday so need to perhaps renew my card or apply for something that might be quicker than the citizenship papers?
Any advice is very much appreciated.
