PR application and EHIC/CSI dilemma

Post by Matt543 » Sun Jun 26, 2016 2:02 pm

Hello

I am an EU citizen and I have decided to apply for PR recently and have stumbled across the following problem relating to the potential need for EHIC. My UK based-life story is as follows:

2008 - 2011: Undergrad university study (with I think valid EHIC card issued by non-UK country but as the card expired and don't have it anymore I am struggling to prove/verify this)

Summer 2011: working full-time for a period of 2 months

2011-2012: Masters study

2012 - now: full-time employment

Is anyone able to advise if this can help me meet the 5 years period of exercising of Treaty rights required for PR?
In particular:
a) as I understand the need for CSI/EHIC was introduced in June 2011 so can my undergrad degree be included in the 5 year period?
b) since I have worked full-time in the summer preceding Masters degree and then after would I still need to be required to hold the EHIC/CSI as the NIN & tax were duly paid in all tax years?

Thank you in advance!

Working before and after study does not fix this.

You need to find that EHIC
or proof you had it (letter from issuing country?)
or else have held CSI in place
or else had a UK RC issued to you as a student in/before 2011.

Otherwise our PR clock will have stopped during each period of study and you will not have acquired PR yet.

Thank you - I have sent some emails trying to confirm if the dates of EHIC can be proved by the issuing body.

I started working in late August 2012... if the EHIC actually expired in June/July 2012 does it mean that the clock was reset then and I need to wait till August 2017 to acquire the PR? I.e. is there any grace period allowed for breaks?

When did you stop being a student?
Perhaps you were a jobseeker before starting work?
(jobseekers don't need CSI).
