Did you surf the links, including this one:jrdx wrote:..ok, i have had a quick look though these posts and it seems a bit of a catch 22...has anyone been through this and come out the end with a solution..?
I just linked the page to show you there is at least some sort of process to hook into.jrdx wrote:... i have looked through lots of the posts... its late and I'm getting tired and can't see the wood for the trees!
in the last link you sent it states :""Your spouse will need this to get a Spanish residence card from the Spanish Foreigners’ Office (Extranjería). Both you and your spouse will need to attend an appointment at your nearest British Consulate in Spain to get the certificate, and will need to make separate declarations.""
meaning that we must be in spain to get the "Certificate of Foreign Marriage Recognition". but i can not get her the visa to get into spain in the first place until we have the marriage certificate recognised....
Worst case can you go to Portugal instead? If the country where you married is part of the Hague Convention, the legalisation office in that country will place a stamp or vignette called “The Hague Apostille” (Apostilla de la Haya) on the back of the document.
Check the list of countries that are part of the Hague Convention.
If not, you’ll need to do both of the following:
- contact the authority where your marriage was registered and get a stamp or signature to validate your marriage certificate
take your marriage certificate to the Spanish embassy in the country you got married in so they can recognise the stamp/signature of the issuing authority
Only on basis that Portugal is next door to Spain. I don't know if they need apostilled documents too, maybe they do not.jrdx wrote:i will have some time to look into things again in a couple of hours. but im interested in why you said "worst case could you go to portugal" because tbh portugal would be an option...
really, thanks for your help on this..i will look at the latest links shortly...
yes.. i realise that now, it was nearly 4am by that stage and id lost the capacity for reasoned thought.. (Casa wrote:You can't 're-marry' in Morocco or Turkey as you are already legally married in Senegal. Also, marriage in Morocco is a long drawn out and complicated process for non residents. Within the paperwork, as a male you would need to obtain a notarised statement of religious denomination. However, as in my opening sentence, you are unable to marry twice.
Not surprising. It happens to us all!jrdx wrote:yes.. i realise that now, it was nearly 4am by that stage and id lost the capacity for reasoned thought..
