EU Citizen marrying US Citizen - Advice needed.

Post by lillyflower » Thu Jun 30, 2016 12:24 pm

Hello. This is my first time posting on this thread and I am trying to find out as much information as I can.

I am an EU Citizen and have been living in Ireland for 10 years. My boyfriend of the past 7 years lives in the United States (He is an US Citizen). To be able to live and start a proper life together we are considering to marry and have decided that more than likely he would much prefer to move to Ireland than stay in the US.

Because I am not an Irish citizen, would he be able to come to Ireland for work? What sort visa would he need? Would it make it easier for us to be together if I became an Irish citizen as I am here the needed amount of years to do that.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,
Lilly.

Be aware EU options may change in the longer term (due to Brexit) but they are still valid now and can get you started

For domestic Irish options check INIS website.
