Sexual Orientation Asylum - Success Story

Post by Alicia_4076 » Sun Jul 10, 2016 1:05 pm

After five years of battling immigration issue, several failed ILR & DL applications, Lost Appeals due to using dodgy solicitors for four years, spent over £14k too and I nearly gave up. When I received removal notice, I consulted a new solicitor and when I mentioned that my main reason for not wanting to return to Nigeria after 16 years is because I now live openly as a bisexual woman. She then informed me that I could claim asylum based on my sexual orientation as it's illegal to be a LGBT person in Nigeria. I went for my interview in Leeds home office on the 21st of June, I was interviewed by a covered Muslim lady. Given the nature of my claim I was worried about her being biased, I know it was wrong to think that. But 7 days later I was granted asylum. I just wanted to post this on here, as I found this forum so useful throughout these past five years when the nightmare began. I'd like to thank everyone who has responded to my post and wish everyone else the best of luck with their case.
