Naturalisation - Certified copies (Solicitors vs NCS)

Post by EUPolish » Sun Jul 17, 2016 8:42 pm

Hi All,

I'm applying for Naturalization and my Solicitors have told me that they can only make a certified copy of my passport and the rest of my documents has to be sent to Home Office in the original form (except the passport). I've also heard a conflicting statement from a friend (who's already been through this process) that only Nationality Checking Services are allowed to send certified copies and that most (if not all) of the documents can be sent as certified copies but only through NCS.

Can someone please advise? Would it be better to go through NCS or Solicitors?

Many Thanks
EU Passport Holder

thanks noajthan, so you would definitely recommend NCS, can you tell me on what basis? If you know more about certified copies can you please shed some more light on this? Many Thanks

My understanding is that only official copies of all documents from NCS are accepted.

And NCS provides another layer of sanity-checking.
Also, for Union citizens, NCS is able to check the applicant's date of acquisition of PR as is recorded in the HO CID (databank).

Furthermore, secure despatch to HO is included in the modest NCS fee.
What's not to like?!

I also agree with Noajthan, having used NCS for mine and my daughters citizenship applications. They are the HO appointment agents/third party and have a direct line to HO if there is a query. Also, NCS offers the JCAP service (joint citizenship and passport application process), solicitors do not.

A solicitor is nothing special, cannot guarantee anything, charges a fortune to 'fill in a form and copy a passport' and often, doesn't know the finer details of nationality law.
