I would like to know if anyone has had any experience with applying for the Malta permanent residence permit for non-EU nationals. In particular, I am interested in the person of means category (which seems to have fairly mild pre-requisites of a net worth of just a few hundred thousand Euros, the renting of an apartment and the payment of a minimum tax) as I would like to explore the option of living in Malta for at least part of the year and to use it as a base for traveling around Europe. Searches on the web turn up many UK or European nationals who have taken up long term residence in Malta but I couldn't find any examples of non-Europeans and, in particular, south Asians (I am an Indian national). Hence, I would like to know if anyone (particularly from Asia) has had any experience with this visa/permit and if the process is actually as straightforward as it appears.
