Apply EEA FM self employed

Post by lovetraveluk » Fri Sep 09, 2016 9:35 pm

Hi Everyone,

My name is Maria, I am from Portugal.

I came to UK last month with my husband, he is a non-eu from Uruguay.

I am cleaner, I work full time cleaning house cash on hand, and I want to apply for his visa EEA FM.

I registered yesterday as self employed to start pay taxes, but I don't know how to pay it. I have the UTR number.

What do I need to send to home office as evidence support of my husband EEA FM?

He is graduated in pharmacy, and he started receive some jobs vacancies to work here, but without visa he can't work, i dont have money to pay for a lawyer to make his visa, but i understand english, so i can fill the form without much problems

Could you please tell me what do I have to send from my job? and how i can start pay taxes? do i need to send my bank statements?

Thank you very much everyone, every help will be appreciated. :)

Welcome.

Start here:

And for FMs, see:
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... s_v3_0.pdf

Note cash in hand may not be good enough.
Try to generate as much of a papertrail as possible.
Have some business cards made.
Get an invoice book and a receipt book from stationery shop and issue invoices and receipts.

Paying tax & NI helps too.
HO will probably apply its MET test to you; make sure your income is above necessary level.

For RC, follow the EEA(FM) guidance, its quite comprehensive.

Hi Noah,

Thank you very much, I was doing cleaning in houses because and get cash in hand because I wasn't registered as Self Employed.

From the website you gave me there are this evidence I need to send:

Reasonable evidence of self-employment may include:
 proof of registration for tax and National Insurance (NI) purposes with HMRC for
example:
o letter of self-employed status
o letter confirming payment of tax and NI contributions
 invoices for work done
 a copy of their business accounts
 an accountant’s letter
 leases on business premises (if applicable)
 advertisements for their business
 business bank statements.

Do I need to have business bank account? I have not paid any taxes because i dont know when pay, i was looking in internet it says i need to pay in April 2017 is that right?

I want to register i get 7.20 per hour and work 40h, do you think is not enough??

sorry ask too many questions, but i am bit lost, because i am new in uk

I dont have invoices, because the people pay me in cash, i have business card.

should i send the form EEA FM with:

Marriage certificate Original and Translated

Form EEA FM

My husbands passport

My passport

My bank statement with money i deposited from the houses i cleaned

my business ads card

UTR letter

what should else send ? how about the taxes i cant pay now because its only possible in april 2017?

Thank you very much in advance noah.

Yes a bank account would help as then you have more of a papertrail, (bank statements).

Start here for business and tax:
https://www.gov.uk/working-for-yourself/overview
https://www.gov.uk/tax-help

MET is based on the level of earnings needed to make Class 1 National Insurance Contributions;
my understanding is the threshold level is equivalent to working 24 hours a week at the National Minimum Wage.

£280-£300 turnover per week may be a good start but what about expenses (travel, materials, insurance, advertising, other overheads) and also tax/NI;
you need to be sure your nett income is adequate.

Suggest you give people invoices and receipts (whether they want them or not).
Then you have more of a papertrail from the copies you will keep.

For the RC, yes you have to prove both your identities;
Also:
  • your relationship;
    the sponsor is exercising treaty rights;
    you are both residing in UK;
The documents you listed are a start.
You need more evidence of residing in UK.
All that is gold does not glitter; Not all those who wander are lost. E&OE.

:D :D Thank you once again Noah,

I am really appreaciated, so do you think is good to issue invoices and give to the madams I clean their houses and keep the copy with me? then attach it to form EEA FM?

in terms of paying taxes?

when it arrives 2017 april i will have to make a calc of how much i have received and then caculate the tax i need to pay the HR revenue right?

by now when I send the documentation, do I need to say I havent pay the tax yet to home office? or can i send all i have, including invoices and banking statment showing my deposits of the money i received cleaning?

Thank you :D :D :mrgreen:

Yes give all those madams and 'ladies who lunch' their invoices/receipts.
Then include a sample of invoices with the application (its not necessary to include every single one).

:idea: You can claim the cost of a laptop, printer, paper, ink etc as allowable business expenses.

Its not time to pay tax, so you don't need evidence of paying taxes just now;
no need to mention it, just show you have registered with HMRC.

:!: Just make sure to save some money ready for your tax demand!

For now, suggest find a bookkeeper service to help you until you are clearer on what to do.
They can help with record-keeping and business accounts;
also with the dreaded tax forms and tax return.

:!: Don't forget evidence of residing in UK, for example:
house/rental contract; utility bills; council tax bill; voter registration; health service letters; driver's license; insurance letters;
etc etc.
