Selling Homemade Goods with a Tier 2

Post by fission_chips » Thu Oct 06, 2016 9:57 am

Hi Guys,

Apologies if other topics already cover operating a business with a Tier 2, but I couldn't find any information regarding running a small local market stall while employed elsewhere under a Tier 2. I have been interested in direct-selling homemade preserves in the local town market, but don't want to pursue it if I will run into visa problems along the way. If I want to continue, I'll have to get my Spam inspected, register the business with the local council, etc. and I don't want to get to far if it is not feasible for myself to do it anyways.

I know there are regulations regarding owning a business with a Tier 2, as well as earning income from said business. Would this apply to my market stall? I am potentially looking to run the business with a British partner, so if we registered under their name, would it be more appropriate? I just want to be aware of the pitfalls of doing something like this with a Tier 2 before getting into trouble with the Home Office or anything like that.

Thanks

You cannot be self employed on a tier 2 general visa. Your income will have to be declared and tax paid as self employed.
