If your mother was born in the UK AND you were born after 1st January 1983, it is likely that you are a British citizen by descent and can apply directly for a British passport.
The more details you give us, the better we can guide you.

Thank you for your response.
My mother was born in Canada, and so was I.
I am also born after 1983.
Does that provide you with sufficient information?
Thanks again,
Isabelle

Your mother was herself a British citizen by descent and hence she is unable to pass on her citizenship to you automatically.Izzy888 wrote:Also, my mother received her citizenship as both her parents are UK nationals and born in the UK.
