Advice as a self employed for spouse visa please?

Post by bce760 » Tue Dec 13, 2016 2:32 pm

Hi

I am currently self employed and will be filling my tax returns this coming April and then hopefully will apply for my spouse after then. I just have two questions and would be grateful if someone can answer the following two questions for me ?

1. I am aware that you can apply for a spouse visa even if you haven't been doing you self employed business for a full 12 months as long as you have made £18600 when it comes to April of the tax year. So you could have started as self employed in August 2016 and earned £18600 before April 2017 (end of the tax year).

My question is if you have a business account and it has only been opened since August 2016 and you only have statements to show from August 2016 until April 2017 i.e. 8 months worth of statements and not 12 months (and those 8 months of statements show that you have earned £18600), would this be ok as they say that your statements have to cover the full 12 months of the financial tax year (April to April)? or do you have to have 12 months worth of bank statements for a full year (April 2016 to April 2017)regardless whether you start your self employed business in August 2016?

As my business account had been opened from August 2016 and I have earned the £18600 in time for submitting my tax return in April 2017 and I have 8 months of business bank statements clearly showing this would this be ok or do I have to have 12 months worth of statements and not 8 even though the 8 show that in the tax year of April 16 to April 17 I have earned 18600 even though i started my business in August 2016?

2. Can you have two self employed businesses ( both registered with hmrc)and use the total earned from both businesses, add them up, and as long as the total is £18600 then would this be ok?

Many thanks and would really appreciate your help and advice.
