Post by fostergrants » Thu Dec 29, 2016 6:23 pm

Hi my name is Bill and I am applying to become a British citizen through birth to a British mother. Has anyone experience with this form? I have a few questions. I contacted the home office in UK and get several different answers! thank you in advance. Will

You can list what your questions are so members can help if they can.

The UKM guidance notes are also quite comprehensive.

The link below is the only topic I can find if you want to scroll back through to see what other UKM applicants have experienced. Not a general discussion topic though.

Plenty of people on this forum have successfully registered with form UKM.

Which year were you born?
Where were you born?
What were your parents nationalities at the the time of birth?
What was your parents marital status at the time of birth?

There was a bottleneck for US applicants which seems to have been resolved. The biometrics is now done by the USCIS application support group in the US. I was sworn/pledged in at the NYC consulate in Sept 2016 and they stated that I was the first one in about six months.

I was born in 1959 in the USA. Mother is British father is American.
Parents were married at time of my birth. I qualify completely for the UKM.

here is my question:

during the WWII my mother's name changed because my grandfather changed his name during his army service. Although he was British and so was his father, grandfather and great grandfather, their family came from Germany and had a German name. Wasn't good serving in the British army with a german name. I checked the deed poll, publications, etc. for the past months and nothing comes up from @1940. The only document I have is my grandfathers British military identification card which has both his new last name and his old one. My mother's birth certificate has her older germanic name. As a result her marriage certificate from 1946 only has her newer maiden name. The home office said I need to show the trail/connection. I am lost as how to do this without the deed poll/ or documentation. Mother is 95 and does not know her her passport is.
This is the more difficult of the questions I have. THANK YOU!!!,
