EEA Family Permit uncertainties

Post by sorek27 » Fri Dec 30, 2016 10:20 am

Hi all,

Has anything changed recently when applying for FP? I had an email stating the following on the 8th of Dec: Unfortunately, the processing of your application has not been straightforward and we will be unable to decide your application within our customer service targets. We are continuing to work on your application and aim to make a decision as soon as possible.

I married earlier this year (arranged marriage), and am an EEA national living in the UK for 10 years now (Dutch nationality). I have been working full time for just over 2 years now and have an EEA cerificate as well.

My wife recently (start of Dec) submitted all supporting evidence to the VFS Global Visa office (Gerry's) in Pakistan. I sent as much proof as possible to eliminate any wiggle room, this includes the following:
  • My attested passport and EEA certificate (attested by Royal Mail)
  • Her original passport, TB screening in the last 3 months (I realise this is not required).
  • Original letter headed and signed letter from local council confirming they have inspected my residence and confirm my spouse can live at the dwelling (her name is on the letter).
  • Work letter confirming my full time employment, salary, position and 3 recent payslips.
  • Wedding photos, honeymoon photos, marriage certificate (official and attested official in English).
  • Travel documents to honeymoon, my travel proof to Pakistan for the marriage and for visit afterwards.
  • Her birth certificate, my visa stamps of entry/exit to Pakistan and our honeymoon destination (these dates correspond to travel documents provided).
  • Evidence of cash held in my bank account showing sufficient amount to support us both for at least 2 years without any job.
  • A UK sized passport photo of wife x 2
I realise this may have been overkill, however my dad had asked a lawyer who mentioned to provide all these (I made sure to ask if the lawyer was not referring to UK Spouse visa vs EEA FP and he was fully aware it was the EEA route).

Moreover when my wife provided the documents along with the printed online application at the VFS office during her appointment she was told on spot that everything had to be in black and white, even so much as anything written with a pen. She was then made to copy every piece of evidence apart from her original passport into black and white copies at their copier machine, even the photos (I assume they attested over there as having seen the originals). My wife mentioned that some photos may have not been distinquishable anymore due to losing colour.

Is it normal procedure to provide almost everything in black and white? I could not find any information on this anywhere. It may be that this only concerns Gerry's VFS Global Visa office in Pakistan (Lahore).

I have yet to receive a reply from the visa department other than their automated email that they have received our application on the 8th of Dec. My dad was also called to confirm if I was a Dutch national, this happened a few days after the automated email.

Thanks in advance.

VFS clearly overloaded and/or inefficient.
Let New Year slowdown work itself out then take stock.
