Advice regarding when to apply for ILR for dependent

Hi mate,
I started my tier 2 visa in Sep 2012. My dependent joint me in March 2013. I am eligible for ILR in Sep 2017 and she in March 2018. I am currently on TIer 2 and she is my dependent and has a tier 2 dependent visa till August 2018. My query is if I apply for ILR in Sep 2017, does she need to change her visa status or can she just continue on her current visa and apply for ILR in March 2018. If not does she need to change to spouse of settled person visa when I get my ilr in Sep 2017. If she does so , does the clock reset or can she still apply for ILR in March 2018. Or will it be better for me to wait and both us apply for ILR in MArch 2018. Thanks in advance.
