Revocation of ILR as a result of travel to certain places

Post by iskndr » Fri Feb 10, 2017 12:58 am

Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone here knows of any case where someone who holds a ILR and has committed no crime in the UK has had their ILR revoked as a result of travel to 'sensitive' places where they haven't committed any crime either, but only went as a tourist.

I am asking because I hold an ILR and am planning a trip to Iran. I am a Chinese citizen and wish to visit Iran purely for tourism. I know that Iran is not as 'sensitive' as Syria, Iraq, or Afghanistan except for the long-lasting political tension it has had with the UK, but I have heard of a case where a British Iranian individual (not sure if dual citizen) had their UK citizenship revoked as a result of a trip to Iran. Their family were political refugees, though.

I am also wondering whether anyone here has strong grounds to believe that their application for naturalisation was/is being delayed as a result of stamps and visas from certain countries on their passport.

Thanks in advance.

No such cases as far as I am aware been reported on the forum.

Political refugee situations are different to tourism visits, don't confuse the two.

Someone can apply for political asylum based on the fact that he cannot travel to a country as he could be persecuted. Now if this person travels there after he acquired British citizenship, you can say that he deceived the UK government to acquire British citizenship and was not really a political refugee.

Otherwise, there are many Iranian dual citizens as well as ILR and visa holders who regularly visit their country without any issue. Your ILR or citizenship will not be revoked unless you commit a very serious offence. Visiting a country is not a ground for your ILR or citizenship to be revoked.

I don't agree with Zimba. Once a person becomes a British citizen they lose their refugee status. The fact that the then visit the country from which they had sought refuge, does not preclude them from travelling there when they secure citizenship.

You are right but I was just contemplating that it might be deceptive
