British Passport or Visa help!

Post by sarahbear87 » Thu Feb 23, 2017 12:42 am

I believe I am eligible for both a British passport through my father as he was born in the UK. I am also eligible for the ancestry visa as my grandparents were also born there.

I am from Australia and want to move to the UK to live with my boyfriend who is a UK citizen and also gain employment.

If I am successful in gaining the British passport do I also need a visa to live and work there or is the passport enough? (I don't really know if the passport grants me citizenship by decent or if I need to apply for that separately either?) I cant seem to find a clear answer to this on the UK immigration website.

If anyone could help or offer some advice that would great!

Was your father married to your mother?

If you are automatically British, then a British passport is sufficient to enter and work in the UK.

At the time of my birth they were married, yes.

So that means that all I would need to do would be to apply for a British passport and if successful I would gain entry to the UK to live and work without having to get a visa at all?
