Tier 1, entrepreneur, existing business?

Post by dawosura » Mon Mar 06, 2017 9:24 pm

Hello,

I'm a Canadian & U.S. dual citizen, living in Canada. I'm looking at emigrating with my immediate family to the UK (England in our case), and am just starting to understand the work visa protocols. Can someone give me a bit of quick advice, it will save a lot of time!

I'm an independent contractor (sole proprietor/sole trader) with more than full-time work, clients in the United States. These clients would all remain with me if I moved to the UK.

Given the current state of the Tier 1/Tier 2 visas, which would be the appropriate course? (Tier 1 Entrepreneur with 200k GBP is crazy — I make good money, already established sole trader business, happy to make it a UK business, but I don't have 200k GBP in the bark :-)

Thank you!

For Tier 1 Ent, yes you require £200k to invest in a business in the UK and employ settled workers etc. Very scrutinised route.

For Tier 2 General, you must have a sponsor. You cannot contract or be self employed on this visa.

You have unfortunately missed the boat with the visa that would have been the best option for you, namely Tier 1 General. This route is closed now.

Do you have a UK born grandparent or does your spouse if she is Canadian?

Hm, sorry to hear I missed another boat.
Unfortunately our UK ancestors are a bit more distant than grandparent.

Thank you very much for your response. I'll look into our other options. Maybe relocation between Commonwealth countries will become easier...

Thanks again! :-)
