Spouse Visa renewal + Council Tax bill

Post by tsotsi » Mon Mar 20, 2017 3:47 pm

Hi all,

I am currently preparing my wife's visa renewal which we are planning to submit in Sept. 2017. However, there's one thing which has started to really worry me :(...

I have read in some places that I will be required to submit 2 council tax bills. I have just received my 2017-2018 council tax bill and have just noticed that my wife's name isn't on it and even worse, I was receiving the 25% single's discount. I honestly don't know how i forgot to inform the council that my wife moved in with me! Now, I can contact the council asap to change my new bill but if I change it for the previous years as well i'm worried it will look really dodgy on the application.

Can someone please help. Do I need to submit 2 council bills, or will just the most recent one do?

Many thanks in advance

I had a similar issue with the council tax in the past when claiming single occupancy discount. When I called and told them my wife had moved in with me and was on a spouse visa, they asked to provide the date she arrived. I was then hit with a bill to pay back the discount I had been receiving while she was living in the house.
How long have you been receiving a discount while she has been living there?

My wife's name is not displayed on my council tax letter but she is listed as living in the property, I called them when we received our 2017/2018 bill and asked for her name to be added to the address correspondence (to use as joint evidence) I was advised it was not possible to show both names.

I submitted the council tax for the last two years as evidence as her spouse living at the address.

I hope this helps?
