UK Spouse Visa - Malaysia

Post by Johnthomas79 » Fri Apr 07, 2017 1:55 pm

Good evening/afternoon.

After 2 days spending most of the time reading about the best way to bring my wife and newborn child back to the UK I have come to the conclusion that posting here is the best way to get guidance.
First of all how is life back in blighty? My situation is similar to yours.
I am British and have been married for 2 years and living with my wife in Malaysia. We got married in KL. We now have a baby boy of 4 months and I would like to bring the family back to the UK. However I have not been working in KL nor have I been employed in the U.K. We are planning to use our savings of well over the required £62,500 for our financial requirement part of the application. I have heard it takes 3 months for them to come to decision. I have been offered a job in London which I need to start within the next 30 days. I do not feel comfortable leaving my wife and child on their own. How long did it take for you to get your visa approved from the start of your application? And what if I decided to wait on applying and took them both back with me on a visiting visit so I can start work as planned and submit the application from Malaysia at a later date? My son automatically qualifies for British citizenship but I'm worried my wife will not be given her 6 months visiting visa. Could you please advise me as I am beginning to pull my hair out trying to figure out the best route

Hi John,

From what you say, you are in pretty good shape. You have your savings in place and you have a job to go too. Your wife qualifies automatically for her 6 months stay in the UK, simply by filling in her landing card on arrival. It's nicer to be settled before tackling the visa process (in my opinion).
Get all of your documents in order. Here are some of the websites that I found useful;

I did have one that listed all of the docs you need, but can't find it now. I'm sure someone on this forum will have that.

Your wife will need IELTS (English Language Test), and TB test cert to accompany the visa app. You will also have to justify where your savings come from by providing bank statements.

As far as the time to process the application is concerned, if you use the rapid service (costs more but well worth it), I worked it out as approximately 20 days, from submission to receipt of the visa (known as the BRP). In fact it took us about 17 days all together.

Hope this all helps, please feel free to contact me again by PM if you would like to know more.
