Hiring European candidate with nationality card

Hiring European candidate with nationality card

I have been looking at hiring a replacement for my existing employee and the candidate that I am looking to hire only has an ID card showing that she is a French citizen, but no passport. She also does not have PR in the UK.

From what I understand, I think a passport or registration document issued in the UK is a must, and the employee does not need to have permanent residence to be considered settled in the UK.
However, nationality cards are not accepted. Is this correct?

I couldn't find the nationality card among the documents listed in the immigration rules, hence was unsure.

(4) If the employee is an EEA national, the biometric data page of a passport containing their photograph and personal details, or a UK registration certificate/permanent residence document;

Well not all EEA citizens have passports as they can arrive and live here using their Residence Cards, which shows their their photograph and personal details. As far as I know it has been accepted by HO

An EU citizen DOES NOT require PR status to be considered a 'settled worker' for the purpose of Tier 1 Ent. This has been covered numerous time already in this sub forum, as the link provided by zimba88.

CR001, thank you for your message. Yes, I know that the consensus is that PR is not needed. However, I was just confirming with Babaty2K02 because from what I can see, this clarification is only in the guidance and not anywhere in the Immigration Rules.

It does seem like just the card will be ok on the basis of what Babaty2k02 said, so will go ahead with the hiring.

I am hiring this candidate part time and the remaining hours will be done by another person who will be doing part-time work, too.

The other person has a British passport which expires in a couple of months. I just want to confirm that I don't need to do checks again when the current passport expires, even if the employee continues after the expiration of the passport?
