Hi,

I'm asking for some advice my circumstances are:

I'm UK born Wife is Indian born
Financial requirement I earn over £18600
I have my own home
Married this Month in India now back in UK wife in India
Wife is currently undertaking English course at the basic requirement level
Once she passes her English test she will go and get the biometric scans undertaken and TB tests

What I want to know is how I can apply for my wife's spouse visa what do I need to do a dummies guide.

The home office online guides can be confusing.

She needs the A1 IELTS Test, it is not a course and it MUST be from an HO approved test provider.

and get the biometric scans undertaken

This is ONLY done once application is submitted and she attends her VFS appointment.

and TB tests

Make sure it is in date when she applies.

Hi thanks do I need to employ a lawyer to submit my application I've created an Visa application account seems straight forward.

Are there any pit falls of doing it yourself common errors etc.

I'm a bit wary of lawyers as a couple of relatives had had bad experiences as the lawyers haven't undertaken the applications correctly then they have had to go to appeal where the lawyers made significant fees on the appeals and added significant time to the application process.

No, a lawyer is not necessary if you meet all the requirements and have ALL the paperwork. A lawyer also has no influence on your application and many of them get even the most basic applications horribly wrong.

My wife has advised me that she's been told by friends in India that she needs to undertake a criminal record check/report as part of the visa application. I've not seen this requirement is this required?
