travelling with ILE in expired passport

looking for advice or anyone who has had experience of this. We will be travelling to Thailand soon and its the first time since my stepdaughter come to join us in the UK. She has her expired passport with her ILE in and her new passport, will she be ok to travel carrying both passports ? The ILE has an expire date on it which worries me into thinking that some not very clued up airport/immigration staff might think that the visa has expired but only means that she must have entered the UK to validate residency before this date as she did.
