Proving financial viability

Post by Renata » Thu May 11, 2017 3:59 pm

Hi there,

I'm due to apply for naturalisation in November 2017. I recently left a permanent job and am trying to get in to a new industry. I can only seem to find temporary work through agencies at present. I have two questions;

1. Is intermittent temporary work going to be sufficient to prove my ability to support myself going forward? A lot of the roles are paid net of tax and the family (I'm a nanny) are responsible for paying the tax. Does anyone have experience applying while doing temporary agency work?

2. I hear you need to prove that you've been able to support yourself over the past 5-6 years. I don't know if I have payslips or P45s/p60s for every single year I've been here. I've definitely got a few. I have been working the entire time so it's just finding the evidence to support it. How did you all show your ability to support yourself over this time?

Thanks so much in advance!

Economic activity is not required for BC application.
For the work you have done you need to supply the required documentation, for example, letters from employers or P60. You don't have to prove that you could support yourself.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

It establishes your physical presence in the UK and also provides evidence of your National Insurance contributions. If you're a citizen of a non-EEA country, you may not actually need to send P60s and P45s in because you'll have stamps in your passport which show the dates during which you were physically present in the UK (for example, I'm non-EEA and used a Nationality Checking Service; they didn't ask for any of these forms from me and sent my application on to the Home Office without them). If you are from the EEA, then you will want to provide as many of these as possible as they are evidence of your work history (and thus your NI contributions), as well as of when you were in the UK.

However, as alterhase58 has said, there are no requirements that you be able to show evidence that you can support yourself in order to apply for naturalisation, so please do not worry about your current occupation. And anyway, by November, you might be in a new permanent post in your chosen industry.

Good luck!
