How do I discover when I Was out of the UK?

Post by evak2979 » Sun May 14, 2017 8:48 pm

Hello :)
I am an EU citizen who has been living in the UK for the last, uh, 10 years or so.
I have passed my life in the UK test, and I am thinking of submitting an application for normalization.

However.

I am not sure of the exact dates I Was out of the country, visiting my home country for a week or two (e.g. like Greece).

I could find some former proof of airplane tickets but not all of it. Is there an easy way to go about this? And if I don't remember all of them, is my application in jeopardy?

Thank you.

For citizenship (naturalisation!) it is only required to declare the five years working back from the date of application. Try and give as much detail as possible, ideally exact dates, but where difficult try and give approximate numbers, month/year. Most importantly ensure you were in the UK on the day of the application, counting five years back. Presumably you have a DCPR.

What if I want a British passport? That's what I mean by naturalization.
Thanks for the help :)

You need to naturalise (i.e. apply for citizenship) before you can apply for a passport. My answer was relating to the process.

Do you have your Document Certifying Permanent Residence yet? If not, that's the first step. For that application the new Guidance Notes v3.0 of Apr 2017 say that you only have to list absences in the five-year qualifying period, and even then only ones where the total of 6 mo. in any 12 mo. period was exceeded, which makes it much easier.

For naturalization -- as alterhase 58 already mentioned above -- it's only the absences in the five years leading up to your application date, but unlike the EEA(PR) application, it's all of them, not just the long ones.
