Stamp 3 & Permission to work

Post by shpirtshqipe » Sun May 14, 2017 10:52 pm

Hi all

Asking this question on behalf of my friend

My friend has work permit in Ireland and the husband has joined her recently on a Stamp 3.

Can you kindly advise what steps or route can be taken for the husband to get some form of legal entitlement to work in Ireland please?

Thank you in advance

He is not allowed to work on Stamp 3.

He will need to get a job offer first and either
(1) apply for an employment permit in his own right (just like his wife would have).
or
(2) if his wife is on a critical skills work permit or a hosting agreement, apply for a spouse employment permit. Full details of this here - http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/em ... cheme.html

He can then get a Stamp 1 which will allow him to start working.

Basically, he needs to find a job first. Be it (1) or (2), the application can be made either by the employer or the employee. So, while he's speaking with prospective employers, it might be a good idea for him to mention that he's willing to make the application himself and bear the cost, which, by the way, is 0 for (2).
