Tier 2 visa - Maternity leave

Hello All

I am on tier 2 (General) visa category. I am entitled to Maternity leave for 12 months and wish to take entire leave and also want to stay in uk during this period. My question is
1. Does this have any impact on settlement through Long residency (10 years residency completes before 5 years on Tier 2)?
2. Does the Home Office need to be notified ?
