Salary sacrifice for pension and financial requirements

Post by ssbib » Tue May 30, 2017 8:09 pm

Hello all. I hope you're all well. I have a quick question. My work is about to start a company pension scheme which I will be entered in to. If I sacrifice 5% of my salary say, does that mean that the amount of earnings that will be taken in to account for a spouse visa or FLR will be effected.

For example if I earn 20,000 at present...

I sacrifice 5%...

Does that mean I only have 19,000 worth of earnings that will be taken into account for any visa or would it still be 20,000.

Also, on a side note. If my wife and I have a baby during our 5 year visa period, does that mean the financial requirements go up? Or does the financial requirements stay the same?

One last question regarding financial requirements. I have a car allowance at work that is taxable, fixed and paid as part of your salary. It is worth 3,300 a year. Is that an extra 3,300 that counts towards the minimum financial requirements?

Thanks.

Financial requirements go up if the child is a non-EEA citizen. Financial requirements do not go up if the child is a British citizen. What is your current immigration status and that of your wife in the UK?

That's good to know, thanks. I am a British citizen and my wife is from the Philippines and just about to get her first settlement visa (application being submitted at VFS Global on Thursday). I'm just thinking out loud. I know she wants children in a few years but i would hate to have to wait the full 5 years because of any financial requirements, by that time I might be too old admin I would be pushing 40. Good to hear that we won't have to worry about that, thanks.

In order to meet financial threshold only gross income matters regardless number of deductions including pension scheme apply over gross income.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

Hi Seagull, just to confirm the gross income in my example above would be 20,000? The salary sacrifice doesn't make any difference to the financial requirements and neither would any other deductions from my pay? Sorry for asking for confirmation but I always get mixed up with terms like gross pay etc

Gross salary is the salary before ANY deductions or sacrifices.

Thanks CR001, I appreciate that. Thanks also Seagull. I am assuming then that my car allowance would be included in the financial requirement decision seeing as its paidnas part of my salary and is taxable. Can anyone confirm this?
