worried about being denied entry - student

Post by futureirishstudent » Sun Jun 11, 2017 4:18 am

Hi All,

I have already spoken to an Irish immigration lawyer who advised I should be ok and have organised a second teleconference but just wanted some advice from users who may have had similar experience. My situation:

1. Overstayed work visa in UK by 28 days - I was trying to prove defacto relationship but the paperwork was so much we realised we would have no chance of applying within 28 days so lawyer advised me to leave. The relationship has since ended from time apart.
2. I left UK, travelled around Italy for 2-3 weeks and returned to UK where I was issued a 6 month stamp at entry (overstay was not brought up). I didn't overstay the 6 months and left to my home country where I have been for about 12 months.
3. I applied for UK study visa which was rejected due to administrative error (I forgot to include some paperwork). I declared my overstay on the form which wasn't mentioned in refusal.
4. I have since found the same masters course being offered in Ireland for considerably cheaper so now want to study it in Ireland rather than reapply for UK visa.
5. I have never travelled to Ireland before.

I am from a country where I do not need a student visa to enter. I get issued 90 day stamp and then I have to legalise my stay once in the country but i am concerned about paying fees, paying flights, etc and being turned away at entry clearance. The lawyer I spoke to said if I had all my paperwork (proof of Uni, proof of money, etc) they would be very surprised if I was denied entry but just wanted to get an opinion and see if anyone had any similar experience?

I can find lots of information online about UK immigration where the overstay would not result in an automatic refusal, but can't find anything online about Ireland immigration law.
