New BRP obtained, am I allowed to quit current job

Dear all,

I have obtained a new Tier 2 BRP for a new job, in the COS it states the start date is 23/5/17, although my actual work starting date is 1/8/17.

Now, i am planning to quit my current job (was also on Tier 2, but different sponsor) earlier than its end date which is 31/7/17, and plan to go travelling before I start the new job. Is this allowed and will it affect my new Tier 2 BRP or ILR application in the future?
