Irish Naturalisation application from Northern Ireland

Post by Samj008 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 2:03 pm

Hi All,

I am applying for Naturalisation based on marriage to my Irish wife of 5 years. We have been living in Northern Ireland me on a UK visa for 9 years now, and I would like a more permanent arrangement. However the forms, (although they say residence is based on the Island of Ireland) ask for numbers handed out by the Irish state (fair enough), do I just put in National insurance number etc? Has anyone any experience of this?

Thanks for your help.

Sam

Having went through the process from NI, I understand your concerns. The form is of course mostly focused on those living in the Republic.

However for marriage purposes your residence is based on the Island of Ireland which includes NI and ROI. You should be able to provide details to show you have lived in NI for the past 3 years, please refer to the guidance sheet on the application form.

When asked for numbers provided by the Irish state put N/A. Also you should obtain a PSNI criminal record check, as they will require this to make sure you are of good character. Those applying from ROI will have these checked with the gardi but they require you to get this from PSNI as they don't have permission to obtain this.

Good luck

Out of interest- is there an intention to apply for British citizenship after you have become an Irish citizen? (and/or obtained ILR in the United Kingdom).
